Lawrence County Court Building Security
The main local court building is the Lawrence County Judicial Building at 240 N. Main St., Suite 110, Mount Vernon, MO 65712. Visitors for court records, dockets, traffic cases, probate filings, criminal files, or jury service should use the Judicial Building, not the Sheriff's Office. The Circuit Clerk office is on the first floor. The Historic Courthouse at 1 E. Courthouse Square remains the county building for many other offices.
Visitors must pass through a security checkpoint at the Judicial Building front door. Hand-carried items go in bins, and purses may be searched or placed on the counter. Metal items such as keys, pens, loose change, wallets, and similar items should be removed for screening. Cell phones are not allowed in courtrooms. Weapons, pepper spray, mace, knives of any length, handcuff keys, scissors, nail files, glass containers, and unauthorized tools are prohibited. Deputies do not store prohibited items.
ADA requests go to Pamela Fobair as ADA Coordinator at the Circuit Clerk address, phone, and email. Interpreter access is available through the 39th Judicial Circuit for limited-English-proficient persons where fundamental interests are at stake, including criminal, juvenile delinquency, abuse/neglect, paternity, domestic violence, mental health, and incapacity proceedings.
People coming only for records should still plan for court-building screening because the Circuit Clerk window is inside the Judicial Building. Parking details and public transit routes were not published in the inspected official sources, so visitors should confirm logistics before leaving.
Federal Court Records Separate
Federal court records are not Lawrence County Circuit Court records. Lawrence County is in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Missouri for federal district matters.
